General Awareness of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

By now you have likely heard of the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, first identified in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China in December. We have been monitoring the outbreak closely and receiving updates and guidance from local, state, and federal partners.

I would strongly encourage everyone to educate themselves on the COVID-19 starting with a careful reading of the Center for Disease Control related web pages https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/about/index.html.  COVID-19 is not an ordinary flu virus and should be approached with a higher level of caution.

I also encourage everyone to be praying for the church in China and the areas that are experiencing a severe epidemic of COVID-19 that they would be strong in the Lord and shine the light of the gospel through the darkness of this disease.

Late last week, the US Department of State elevated its China travel advisory to a level 4: Do Not Travel recommendation, and the US Department of Health and Human Services has declared a public health emergency. As a result, there are new restrictions for individuals who have recently been in China, including a temporary ban on entry into the United States for foreign nationals who have been to mainland China in the last 14 days (other than immediate family of U.S. citizens and permanent residents), and closer health monitoring of U.S. citizens and permanent residents who have recently traveled to China and have returned to the United States.

While the risk from this new virus remains low in New Hampshire, there are steps you can take to protect yourself from all viruses that can cause respiratory illness, including the common cold and flu. This includes frequent hand-washing with soap and water, avoid close contact with sick individuals, staying home if you are sick, covering your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing, and cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs.

Above all, we trust in the power of God found in Psalm 91 to  deliver us from every pestilence because we have found refuge under the shadow of His wings.

In Christ,

Pastor NIck
